01-24-92 v1.21
*** Version 1.21 contains suggested enhancements to v1.20
* The Verify Door v1.21 implements a new and faster data
transmission routine that should be more compatible with
modems and modem setups not previously able to properly
run TVD.
* TVD is now much faster at detecting loss of carrier.
* ANSI colors are now properly reset for the user who has
the PCBoard graphics mode turned on.
01-04-92 v1.20
*** Version 1.20 contains suggested enhancements to v1.19
* Log output has been somewhat reformatted and several new
log entries have been added to give the sysop a much more
detailed account of door/user performance.
* Status bar display has been enhanced to include the display of
some of the countdown and delay timers that TVD uses to enable
the sysop to 'tweak' the configurable time delays.
* Modem no response timeout routines were enhanced
* No answer timeout routine was added to the code (this was added
to cover for modems that don't have this feature as well as the
rare modem that suddenly becomes brain-dead.
* Added automatic pulse dialing detection and delays to allow for
more reliable pulse dialing in appropriate places in TVD. If
you have TCBVAL configured for pulse dialing (ATDP) then TVD will
wait 10 seconds after issuing a dialing command to your modem
which will allow your modem time to dial the number.
* TVD (registered version only!) now exits with a variety of DOS
errorlevel exit codes (see docs)
* Special thanks go out to Keith Luken of Phantasm BBS in Leonardo, NJ,
and to Dave Biggs of Black Cauldron BBS in Winter Springs, FL for
their patience and assistance with beta testing for this version.
11-22-92 v1.19
*** Version 1.19 contains enhancements to v1.18
* The number of dial attempts under various conditions is
now sysop configurable.
* The entire dialing string is now displayed to the sysop at
dialout time. This feature was added for sysops who wish to
experiment with different dialing string setups.
* Timeout for no response from modem is now configurable.
* The WELCOME and WELCOMEG files have been updated to clarify
the instructions to users who don't know how to make their
modem answer the phone.
* Documentation was updated to remind sysops that the dialing
string can be configured to turn off the MNP and change other
modem parameters in order to prevent the non-mnp user from
seeing a line or two or 'garbage' as the two modems connect
and try to negotiate error correction.
* Setup has been changed to allow the sysop to enter the name
of the config file on the command line. This should make
things a little easier on multi-node sysops.
* The self-test feature of v1.18 works so well it was continued
for this release.
07-27-91 v1.18
* Detect users with MNP modems (more on this in later versions!)
* TCBV can now easily be configured to NEVER call long distance.
(You could always do that, but long distance dialing is now
much easier to disable.)
* Setup has been updated to include the new features
* Most (but not all) of the prompts have been moved to the TCBVTEXT file
(use EXTREME caution if you edit these!)
* A few spelling errors were corrected in the WELCOME and TCBVTEXT files
* Improved error handling in SETUP18.
* TCBVD118.EXE incorporates a small amount of code for self-testing.
It is quite capable of detecting an attempted virus attack on itself.
Should this occur, the code will show a message on the screen that the
file has been damaged and will also make an entry into the log.
It will then stop running and the batch file that called it should reload
PCBoard. (It would have been better but impractical to have the door lock
up your system in the event an attack on TCBVD118.EXE was detected.)
Please remember that it does not look for nor does it detect a virus
anywhere unless the virus attacks TCBVD118.EXE itself!
